Growing up and in

17 (ish) years ago my parents uprooted our family and moved to this very same little corner of Idaho.  It was the summer before my Freshman year of high school.  I'll spare you the details but it is safe to say that I did not transition well and I made my parents know it.

To say I hated my new home is an understatement of gigantic proportions!  I hated the way everyone talked, dressed, acted, the vehicles they drove and more than anything else I hate the look of everything!  Potato and wheat fields dominate the landscape out here and as a hormonal 13 year old city girl, well it just didn't go over very well.  I vowed that the day I graduated high school I was leaving this town/area/state in my dust.  I was headed out for greater things, college, big city life, and amazing adventures that would let me travel world wide.

Seventeen years later I find myself back in this little town surrounded by all these potato and wheat fields.  The very places I despised as a young girl are the ones that touch my heart the most.  This area is filled with memories of that young girl and the amazing adventures that she had while here.  I pass corner after corner and remember little blips of those long ago days.

That young girl has grown up but she has also grown into herself and into the place where she is supposed to be.

Dont forget to enter to win the most wonderful hat.  Give away ends tonight at 8pm!

(Visiting from the barnhop) I had a similar experience, not with place, but with a person. My dad was a jerk when I was a teen. (Not really, but I thought so then). We butted heads on EVERYTHING - politics, religion, lifestyle, you name it. I vowed when I was an adult I'd be as different from him as could be.

Now I realize I'm more like him than ever.

And I like it that way. At 15 I thought he was a jerk. At 34 I realize he's a genius.
