What an incredible week

Ever had one of those weeks where everything seems to go just how you wish/want it to?  That was my week.  It was beautiful.  My heart is full of love for the incredible little people who live in the house.  What huge changes we have seen in each of them over the last few months.  I wake up every single day thankful for this life I have been given, for the husband that still make my heart pitter pat, for the kids who show me what love is every single day.  Today I feel blessed to call this my life.

Owl Pellet Science Day

I admit I am one of those girls who get a total kick out of dissecting things.  I was truly bummed when I didn't get the opportunity to dissect in high school biology.  I find it all fascinating!  So when the kids were studying animal classification, habitats, food chain and the like it was only natural that I head over to Home Science Tools and grab an owl pellet dissecting kit.  The kids were totally excited to check it out and see what was what.  They had a ball and when we were done they asked if I could order then some more. :) You bet.

Hope you have a discovery filled day! :)

Homemade Butter in the Food Processor

I bought cream the other day from a local(ish) dairy with the intent to make butter.  Oh boy did it make butter.  So. Incredible.  A small note here, I didn't plan on making this a tutorial so there are some pictures missing.  If you have any questions please leave me a comment.

 {I started with cold cream from the fridge and my food processor.  Pour the cream in (I used a pint) and turn it on.  Within a minute or two whipped cream begins to form.  Keep it running.  Soon the cream gets really thick.}

 { The cream become so thick it won't even fall off the spoon!  Keep processing it.  Soon the cream will separate from the buttermilk and become clumpy.  Keep going until the clumps are stiffly compacted.  I don't have a pic of this step!  When you take the lid off you will see the buttermilk on the bottom and chunks of light yellow butter all over.  The chunks should be the consistency of a thick cream cheese.  They need to have substance because you will be kneading in water next.}

 {Here is my butter in the foreground.  After you achieve the thick clumps drain the buttermilk from the chunks.  Save the buttermilk if you wish.  Transfer all the butter clumps to a bowl and form into a mass.  Pour cold water over the butter and begin folding the butter over itself and pressing against the sides of the bowl.  This removes the buttermilk and prevents spoiling.  Drain out the water and pour fresh water over butter.  Continue kneading and rinsing until the water runs clear.}

 {Once the water is clear drain the butter one last time.  Knead for a few seconds to makes sure that all the buttermilk has been removed.  Add salt to taste if desired approx 1/2 tsp is average.  Knead to mix in salt}

{Place butter on a piece of wax paper.  Roll to shape into a log form if desired.  Place in the fridge to harden.}

This was such an easy way to making butter.  I tried years ago using a jar and a marble and it did not go well!  Caitlin was so pleased with this project she exclaimed "That is so easy I could do that myself!"  And she could, it really is that simple.

The butter turns out fantastic with a wonderful flavor.

Happy Butter Making.

Little bits of country

{It's no secret that I am longing for the country.  While my hoppin' town of 3k is hardly big, I still feel stuck in the middle of a lot of houses.  Every night I look out my window and I look right into the neighbors kitchen and bathroom.  While I like my neighbors I don't really want them that close.  I have been a bit down in the mouth as of late so last night I went searching for the little bits of country that I have right here in my own backyard.  This little barn red storage shed makes me smile.  I pretend its a huge empty barn and there are no neighbors 6 feet behind it.  Okay I dont really pretend that.... anyway its just the right amount of country for me today.  The hoses hang on the backside with an old wood pile underneath.  The paint is peeling and the setting sun peeks around just so.  It may not be in the middle of no where but for today it will do.}

The incredible edible...pizza

Last week I was craving pizza.  I originally wanted veggie pizza loaded with olives, zucchini, peppers, onions, tomatoes, the works.  And then, I remembered my kiddos and the fact that while they will eat veggie pizza they no longer do so enthusiastically.  So I made this pizza instead.
Oh.My.Word.

There are no words, it was that incredible.  In fact the topping was so incredible that I had to stop myself from eating the whole pan.  Seriously.

{Sausage, onions, peppers, garlic and zucchini}

{Green olives are one of my fav pizza ingredients.  In fact my fav pizza ever is mushroom and green olives.  Oh my word. Mmm good stuff.}

{Homemade pizza sauce, homemade crust and mozzerella cheese make the filling all the more wonderful.}

{Goodness on a plate.}

It's okay you can moan out loud, it really was that good.
